Questions & Answers
Q: We have had numerous enquiries about salt & pepper pots that have a happy face on one side and a sad face on the other and are in fact Polycrol man and woman.
A: Originally it was thought by many collectors and dealers that Wade actually produced these. However, we have made extensive enquiries and can now confirm that 10,000 pairs were produced between 1980 and 1985 by another Stoke-on-Trent Pottery for Nicholas Laboraties as gifts for doctor. They were definitely not manufactured by Wade.
Q: In my collection, I have two SWIFTS the same as illustrated in Pat Murray's book. Can you confirm that Wade Manufactured these items?
A: We can confirm that Wade did manufacture the Swifts. Unfortunately without actually seeing the items in question, it is difficult to verify that they are actually Wade as they are unmarked and some copies were made.
Q: In our collection, we have a "Baby Chick" with the following labels; Guernsey Cream, Advocaat, Channel Islands Fine Distillers Ltd., Guernsey. Sole Concessionaire Rawlings & Son (London) Ltd. It appears full and complete with stopper.
A: The spirit decanters manufactured by Wade inluding the Chick were in circulation for a short while before the Brewery was destroyed by fire. The containers that survived the fire were 'sold off' through Boots the Chemist. They were circa 1961.
Q: I am enquiring about products manufactured for Thorntons. I know of a blue van, a brown van and Peter the Polar Bear. I also was told of a toffee pot and plant pot. The plant pot is brown and has 'Thorntons' diagonally moulded to the side. It has a hole in the bottom and is not marked Wade but is Wade style.
